COVID-19: Staying Home, Staying Safe and keeping up with your Eco-Friendly Lifestyle – INTRODUCTION

Over the course of the next 7 days, I will be blogging about steps which you can take to minimise the transmission of COVID-19 in your household and maintain an eco-friendly lifestyle in the mean time!

I will cover a variety of topics and touch on associated / relevant products which you can use as a starting point for your own research.

In the face of this extraordinary life we must now lead – distanced from our friends, families and loved ones, we can make a conscious choice to make the most of this situation – especially for those of us privileged enough to safely stay indoors at a place we can call home. Take advantage of this time to do some odd jobs around the house, Spring clean, expand your culinary mastery, or just bank more quality time with yourself or your loved ones (online, if they are not in the same household!).

To stop the spread of COVID-19, you should only leave the house for very limited purposes:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, including to donate blood
  • avoid or escape risk of injury or harm
  • to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
  • travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.

These reasons are exceptions. Even when doing these activities, you should minimise time spent outside of the home and ensure you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

You should also:

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – for at least 20 seconds
  • wash your hands as soon as you get home
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands
  • not touch your face if your hands are not clean

… basically, things we should all be doing anyway…

I am not going to bore you with what to do if you get symptoms of COVID-19 – but you can find more details on the NHS COVID-19 website.
