Product Review: Soapnuts Laundry Detergent

This is something I put off trying for years, but as soon as I started my quest to reduce my waste, I bought some, and have been using soapnuts ever since! An eco-friendly alternative to laundry detergent and synthetic soaps, they are natural and non-polluting. But for me, with sensitive skin, which goes blotchy with many conventional laundry detergents (and softeners!), I was particularly nervous about changing from the one I have used for well over 30 years…

I am delighted to say that I am more than pleased with the results! Not skin irritation, clothes are both clean and fresh-smelling when they come out of the washing machine and (best of all) they work out just as cheap as the conventional laundry detergent – I even found I could get more washes out of them than they recommend! AND they take up less space!

Product Review: Biodegradable Bamboo Cotton Swabs

When I started looking into everything I use on a regular basis, I found more and more things which I needed to replace – Cotton buds were one of these items. In order to avoid them ending up in landfill or in our oceans, where it takes 100s of years for them to degrade, I started looking for an alternative

I found some Biodegradable Bamboo Cotton Swabs from HydroPhil at Peace With The Wild. I am happy with the quality, functionality and biodegradability of the product. At the end of the day, I was not expecting a “wow” moment, unlike the shampoo- and conditioner-bars I have tried! It does what it says on the box, and I can use them with a clear conscience.

Product Review: Primal Suds Vegan Soap Bars “BARE COCONUTS”

After decades of my sensitive skin reacting badly to “soap products” – basically resorting to shower gels in favour of soaps that made me blotchy – I was particularly nervous about finding a more ecological alternative….

However, Zero Filth Bare Coconuts was awesome: smells great, did its job and best of all NO REACTION!
Give it a go!

Keep Cups

Globally, KeepCup users avoid over 5 million disposable cups daily. Every minute around the world, one million disposable cups are used and discarded. I have used KeepCups for years.... not just out and about, but at home too (*clumsy* coughs). They come in a variety of sizes and designs - I love all the colours available - it is like the pick-a-mix at Woolworth's! Go out and Espress(o) yourself!

Product Review: Coconut Oil Unscented Solid Dog Shampoo – The Dog and I

It is no secret that I love my dog more than life itself – she is my best friend, my soul mate! But lets face it – Poppy DOES love to roll around in the mud (and will take any opportunity to apply her favourite perfume: ‘Eau de Fox Poo’).

So, when making a purchase of shampoo bars for myself from Peace With the Wild, I took a moment to browse through the Pets section of the website.

Choosing the unscented soap (I am not really someone who likes their dog to smell like a perfumery!), I was pleased to find that the shampoo was easy to use, and even removed ‘Eau de Fox Poo’ successfully!

Product Review: Kutis Organic Lip Balm

Another lovely lip balm, from Kutis directly or Peace With The Wild. Once again, this is a really nice product and recyclable / up-cyclable packaging! The lip balm is smooth, light and (most importantly) soothed and repaired my dry, cracked lips this winter!

I went for “naked”, but will be trying out others next time I buy more. because this lip balm is available in numerous scents:

  • Naked Lip Balm – Fragrance Free
  • Rosey Lips – Rose Scented & Tinted
  • Peppermint Scented
  • Lime Scented
  • Vanilla Scented

The Milk Dilemma

After an extensive amount of research, and much frustration I have come to the conclusion that I (personally) have very little choice but to continue to buy the 4 pints / 2.272 litre plastic bottles of milk from the supermarket.

Glass bottles are ruled out

Firstly, I suffer from blackouts without warning. These occur 2.3 times a week on average, and often leave me with injuries. In the past I have had 38 stitches in my leg after blacking out with a cup of coffee (hence using KeepCups around my home). If I purchased glass bottles of milk, I would be putting my personal safety at risk.
